What is a Book Review?

A book review is an analytical assessment of a text. It makes an argument; hence it is not just a summary. It allows the readers to have a thorough understanding about the characters and events. The review must consist of positive and negative elements that makes the book worthy to be read. You may even offer an in-depth analysis of what makes the work exemplary or deficient in its form.

Here are some points to ponder as you prepare your review:

1. If the author wanted you to get one idea from the book, what would it be?
2. Who were the main characters?
3. Were the characters credible?
4. What did the main characters do in the story?
5. What was the conflict?
6. Could you relate to any of the characters in the story?
7. Have you ever done or felt some of the things, the characters did?
8. What was your most significant opinion about the book?
9. Would you recommend this book to another person?
10. What type of person would like this book?
